The Ivy House System

At Ivy Classical Academy, we strive to promote community and camaraderie.  One of the ways in which we can accomplish this is through the House System.  On their first day of 6th grade, which is the students’ first day in the Upper School, every student is assigned to a house which will continue to be their assigned house through graduation.  This fosters relationships that will grow and develop through the student’s time in the Upper School.  We have six houses in the Upper School, each represented by a creature of Greek mythology.  The root of the Classical Tradition comes from Ancient Greece, and these mascots give an exciting rallying point for each house.  Each house will have a leader and co-leader.  It is our goal at Ivy to also create leaders and give students opportunities to learn how to lead well.  Teachers will be assigned as House Sponsors to provide oversight and mentorship to the students each house.

Throughout the school year there will be various events and competitions between the six houses.  The houses can earn points for winning these events as well as their participation.  Every school day students can earn merit points for acts of kindness and other praise-worthy actions.  These merit points will be added to the students’ house point totals.  Another part of the House System is to facilitate service in the school.  We want Ivy students to be service oriented.  There will be ways throughout the school year for Upper School students to be involved in serving the lower grades both as a house and as individuals.
