Board of Directors
Bradley Neave | Chairman
Bradley is the founder of Ivy Classical Academy and is honored to serve as the chairman of the governing board. Bradley also founded the Alabama Classical Group, which was formed to establish a network of classical charter schools across the State of Alabama.
As a lifelong entrepreneur, Bradley has started, acquired and sold businesses across a number of industries. Presently, he serves as the managing director of Halieus, a real estate firm specializing in mixed-use and commercial development.
Beyond his private sector pursuits, Bradley chairs a redevelopment authority tasked with revitalizing one of Alabama’s most historically significant districts. Additionally, Bradley serves on the board of an NGO focused on chronic disease prevention and management in disadvantaged communities.
Born in England and having lived in Paris and Brussels, Bradley finished High School in Atlanta before earning a degree in telecommunications management from the University of Georgia. While he and his wife, Jessica, met in Atlanta, the two chose to relocate to Alabama to be closer to her family as they raise their children.
David Corbin | Board Member
David Corbin is Senior Executive at the American Classical Education Foundation. Prior to entering the K-12 world, he was Head of School at Geneva School of Boerne, Provost and Professor of Politics at Providence Christian College in Pasadena, CA and Dean of the School of Politics, Philosophy, and Economics at The King’s College in New York City. His areas of academic interest include political philosophy, politics and literature, the American founding, and the work of Alexis de Tocqueville. Dr. Corbin has written a book on Thucydides’ History of the Peloponnesian War titled The Rise and Decline of Imperial Democracies (VDM, 2009) and has co-authored Keeping Our Republic: Principles for a Political Reformation (Resource Publications, 2011), A Reader’s Guide to Aristotle’s Politics (Continuum, 2009), and The Republic of Republics: A Study of the Federalist Papers (Federalist: 2015). He co-hosts the podcast “Democracy in America Today,” and is currently working on a book titled Shakespeare’s Prince that compares Shakespeare and Machiavelli’s understanding of human nature, politics, and morality. His analysis of politics, culture, and education has appeared in dozens of news outlets including The New York Times, The Washington Times, and the Associated Press. Dr. Corbin earned his Ph.D in Political Science from Boston University. He and his wife Catie reside in Colorado where their two youngest children attend a classical charter school in Colorado Springs.
David Whetstone | Board Member
David Whetstone grew up in Greenville, Alabama, with his parents, Luke and Marie Whetstone, and six siblings. He and his siblings all attended Greenville High School, where both of his parents were teachers. His father taught Chemistry and Math, and was the head coach of both the football and the baseball teams. His mother taught English, Speech, and Literature. Public education was an integral part of all of his life and upbringing.
After graduating from the University of West Alabama and then the University of Alabama Law School, he served as Assistant Attorney General (1973), Executive Director of the District Attorneys Association, and Executive Director of the Office of Prosecution Services (1975-79). David and his wife moved to Gulf Shores in 1979, and they have both had long and rewarding careers in public service. He served as District Attorney of Baldwin County from 1984-2006, and his wife taught fourth grade at Gulf Shores Elementary School for 25 years. They have three grown children who are all teachers in Alabama public schools. Their oldest grandchild is currently teaching English in the US Peace Corps in Colombia.
Jason Jewell | Board Member
Jason Jewell is Professor of Humanities and Director of the Center for Great Books and Human Flourishing at Faulkner University, where he has taught since 2004. He has written one book and has contributed to two volumes of essays, ten academic journals, and five encyclopedias. His writing has also appeared in many popular publications. Dr. Jewell has been involved in classical education for more than 15 years, teaching classes from middle school through graduate school. He and his wife of 24 years have seven children, all of whom have been educated using a classical curriculum. He blogs about the Great Books and classical education, among other topics, at his Substack, the Lifelong Learner. Dr. Jewell holds a bachelor’s degree in history and music from Harding University, a master’s degree in history from Pepperdine University, and a Ph.D. in interdisciplinary humanities from Florida State University.
